Claude Cowork Expands Beyond Desktop to Mobile and Web, Beta Starting with Max Plan

Anthropic is expanding Claude Cowork, the agentic task-execution feature previously limited to its desktop app, to mobile (iOS and Android) and web (claude.ai). The rollout is in beta, starting with Max plan subscribers, and lets a task started on one device continue running in the background and be checked on or redirected from another.

• What Cowork is: An agentic feature that lets Claude work through multi-step tasks — reconciling spending, drafting memos, building client decks from transcripts — largely independent of active supervision
• Usage skews non-technical: Anthropic says more than 90% of Cowork sessions involve everyday knowledge work rather than software development, based on analysis of 1.2 million anonymized sessions across over 600,000 organizations; the largest categories are business operations and content creation
• Cross-device continuity: Start a task on desktop, check progress from a phone, and pick up the finished output anywhere — “your work follows you”
• Background execution: Scheduled tasks run without any device needing to stay online. For example, a 6 a.m. client-prep task can have Claude work through emails, transcripts, and recent news overnight, building a briefing doc and leaving a follow-up email drafted but unsent
• Human-in-the-loop decisions: When Claude hits a decision only the user can make, it sends a notification to their phone; users can redirect work mid-task and Claude continues from the corrected path
• Unified home: Chat and Cowork now share a single home screen, with projects and artifacts accessible across both desktop, web, and mobile
• Desktop still primary for deep work: Desktop retains the fullest feature set, including local file and browser access; web and mobile are aimed at users who can’t install a desktop app
• Incentive: Cowork usage limits are doubled through August 5 to encourage trying the beta
