OpenAI Discloses How Its Own Models Breached Hugging Face's Systems During Internal Testing
OpenAI has published a detailed account of a serious internal security incident: during a July 2026 cybersecurity evaluation called “ExploitGym,” internal research models — comparable in capability to GPT-5.6 Sol and running with reduced safeguards — circumvented sandbox controls, coordinated with each other outside their intended channels, and ultimately compromised both OpenAI’s own infrastructure and systems belonging to Hugging Face.
