Gemini Live Adds Voice-Driven Multi-Step Task Automation
Google added a set of voice-first productivity features to Gemini Live, letting users set up complex, multi-step tasks with natural voice commands that then run on their own across Google’s apps.
Details
- Spark: automates multi-step tasks spanning Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, and the web — for example, turning brainstorming notes into an organized outline or building a meal plan with a matching grocery list
- Daily Brief: a spoken summary that combines updates from Gmail and Calendar into a single voice briefing
- Hands-free inbox management: voice-controlled sorting and organization of email directly in Gmail
- Personal Intelligence: connects past conversations with Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube data to give Gemini more context, once a user connects those apps in their Personal Intelligence settings
- Access point: available through the Live icon in the Gemini app, rolling out starting August 26, 2026 (Google’s announcement didn’t specify a country/language rollout schedule)
What happened next
Google frames the update around a stat it cited alongside the launch — that 63% of users already talk to Gemini out loud — positioning Gemini Live’s voice interface as the primary way it wants users automating everyday tasks going forward, rather than a secondary mode to typed prompts.
