Devin Adds ChatGPT Sign-In and Support for OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol
Cognition shipped two OpenAI-related updates to Devin on September 29, 2026: a “Sign in with ChatGPT” option that lets subscribers spend their existing ChatGPT quota inside Devin, and same-day support for OpenAI’s newly released GPT-6.1 Sol model.
Details
- Sign in with ChatGPT: Users with an eligible ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan can link their account in Devin’s account settings; OpenAI model usage inside Devin then counts against the Codex/ChatGPT usage already included in that plan, rather than Devin’s own quota
- Platform coverage: The integration works across Devin Cloud (where it automatically favors GPT models in Lite, Normal, Ultra, and Fusion modes when beneficial), Devin Desktop, and Devin CLI (where users manually pick a GPT model)
- Spend controls: Users can cap spending through their ChatGPT settings; once a linked plan’s limit is reached, sessions fall back to Devin’s own quota automatically
- Cost angle: Cognition says pairing GPT-6 Astra with the free SWE-2 sidekick in Fusion mode cuts costs by about 39% versus using Astra alone, stretching a linked ChatGPT plan further
- GPT-6.1 Sol launch: Released the same day, GPT-6.1 Sol scored 60.4 on Cognition’s FrontierCode 1.1 benchmark (58.1 at low reasoning effort), comparable to GPT-6 Sol (60.7) and GPT-5.6 Sol (60.6)
- GPT-6.1 Sol pricing: Runs 44-57% cheaper per task than GPT-6 Sol across effort levels — $0.31/task at medium effort versus $1.66 for GPT-6 Sol’s max effort, and $0.21/task at low effort, which Cognition calls the highest score of any model under $0.30/task on its leaderboard
- Availability: Both updates are live immediately in Devin Desktop and Devin CLI, with the ChatGPT sign-in also available in Devin Cloud
What happened next
The releases line up with OpenAI’s broader DevDay 2026 push to let third-party developer tools draw on a user’s existing ChatGPT subscription, with Devin named as one of the tools in that program alongside peers like Notion and Vercel. For Cognition, the pairing continues a pattern from earlier in September — cheaper, more capable models arriving almost weekly — while giving ChatGPT subscribers a reason to route coding-agent spend through a plan they already pay for instead of topping up Devin credits separately.
