Claude Voice Mode Adds Opus and Sonnet, Plus Gmail and Slack Connectors
Anthropic has overhauled Claude’s voice mode, expanding it beyond the speed-focused Haiku model to now support the more capable Opus and Sonnet models as well. The update also adds connectors to outside apps like Gmail and Slack, along with broader language support, and is rolling out in beta across mobile, desktop, and web apps.

- Model choice added: Voice mode previously ran exclusively on Haiku for low latency; it now lets users pick between Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku
- Carries over your last model: Starting a voice conversation defaults to the newest version of whichever model was last used in text chat
- Speed-optimized: Voice mode always runs the fastest variant of the selected model, keeping the conversation responsive even with more capable models
- App connectors: Voice mode can now connect to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Slack, Canva, and Notion, enabling requests like checking a calendar or having an email thread summarized aloud
- Language support: Now available in English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish (beta, requires manual language selection)
- Plan differences: Free users remain limited to the Haiku model and a single connected app; paid plans unlock every model they’re subscribed to and multiple simultaneous connectors
- Usage limits: Voice conversations count toward the same usage limits as regular messages
- Platform availability: Available on iOS, Android, desktop, and web
How to try it
- Update the Claude app (mobile, desktop, or web) to the latest version and open voice mode
- A paid plan (Pro or higher) is required to use Opus or Sonnet in voice mode
- Enable the relevant connectors (Gmail, Calendar, etc.) beforehand to use app integration features
- Because this is a beta rollout, availability may vary by region and plan
