Gemini for macOS Adds Hold-the-Fn-Key Voice Control — From Dictation to Summaries and Image Generation
Google has updated the Gemini app for macOS with a new feature that lets users long-press the Fn key and speak naturally into any window on their desktop. The update covers a wide range of tasks by voice, from dictation to rewriting text, summarizing files, and generating images.

- Content extraction and summarization: With the “Gemini reasoning” setting enabled, users can highlight files and say something like “Read these vet files and summarize my dog’s medical history” to get a summary
- Text composition and rewriting: Voice commands can instantly rewrite text, tweak its tone, and drop the polished version right where it’s needed
- Image generation and editing: Users can create or modify images through voice commands as well
