Gemini's Study Notebooks Roll Out to Google Workspace Accounts
Google announced on September 22, 2026 that study notebooks, an adaptive-learning feature built into the Gemini app, are now available to users signed in with school- or work-issued Google accounts, not just personal accounts. The gradual rollout to Rapid Release domains had begun September 17 and reaches Scheduled Release domains over the following days.
Details
- What it does: users upload class materials or other source documents into a notebook and Gemini turns them into a “personalized, course-aware study partner”
- Four core functions: creating a study notebook, taking a progress quiz to surface knowledge gaps, working through bite-sized personalized lessons with practice questions, and tracking progress on a dashboard
- Who it’s for: Google frames it around students consolidating course material, educators generating aligned coursework and rubrics-based feedback, and professionals synthesizing research into deliverables
- Admin-gated: available by default but controlled through existing Gemini app and Gemini Notebook admin settings, so IT admins can restrict it
- Availability: all Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers globally, excluding the European Economic Area, where access is coming “in the coming weeks”
What happened next
The Workspace rollout follows study notebooks’ original launch to personal Google accounts earlier in the year, extending the same interactive learning workspace to school and corporate environments where admins control feature access. Google did not announce an EEA timeline beyond “coming weeks,” so European Workspace users remain without access for now while the rest of the global rollout continues through Scheduled Release domains.
