Anthropic and GSA expand agreement: 40% discount on Claude for federal, state and local government
Anthropic expanded its partnership with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) with a new agreement giving government partners a 40% discount across Claude products.
Details
- Discount: 40% off Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API, applying across every product surface: direct purchases today, and through cloud providers in the coming months. It extends to state, local, tribal and territorial governments.
- Terms: no minimum spend commitment; agencies pay for usage. Anthropic estimates the discounts will save the government $1 billion.
- Purchasing: available now through GSA’s Multiple Award Schedule at the OneGov discount.
- Implementation program: a dedicated program to help agencies adopt Claude is coming in the coming weeks.
- Security: Claude for Government (FedRAMP High) became generally available September 30. On Amazon Bedrock, Claude is FedRAMP High, with select models authorized for DoD IL4/IL5 in AWS GovCloud; on Vertex AI it is FedRAMP High. Claude Enterprise is in process for FedRAMP Moderate through FedRAMP 20x.
- Adoption: about 500 U.S. federal, state and local organizations use Claude; weekly Claude for Government active users are up about eightfold since February.
What happened next
The discount removes a pricing barrier across all surfaces, including cloud marketplaces once those are added. The cloud-provider timing is only described as “coming months”, and Claude Enterprise’s FedRAMP Moderate authorization is still pending.
