China’s Kunlun Tech revealed that it had begun invite-only testing of “Skywork,” a large language model co-developed with SINGULARITY AI, on April 17, 2023. Built with roughly 200 billion parameters and clearly positioned with ChatGPT in mind, this model marked the starting point of what would later be developed into the Skywork/Tiangong brand.

Skywork (Tiangong) continued to evolve, with “Skywork 2.0” arriving in February 2024, followed in April of that year by the foundation model “Skywork 3.0” and the public beta of music generation model “SkyMusic.” In January 2025, the reasoning-focused “Skywork 4.0” (o1 and 4o editions) launched as a free public release, and by December of that year it had grown into an integrated workspace called “Skywork,” capable of everything from document creation to video summarization.
