Cognition Acquires Production-Operations Agent Startup TierZero
Cognition, maker of the autonomous AI software engineer Devin, has announced its acquisition of TierZero, a platform for autonomous agents that operate production systems. The deal reflects Cognition’s view that code generation alone isn’t enough — it wants to bring agents into every stage of the software development lifecycle.
Details
- What TierZero is: A production-operations platform that integrates with observability tools like Datadog and PagerDuty, letting autonomous agents deploy code, resolve failures, and escalate to humans only when needed
- Track record: Since a quiet launch last year, TierZero has grown to serve tens of thousands of engineers at fast-moving companies including Brex, Discord, and Drata, resolving thousands of software and infrastructure issues daily
- Rationale: “As agents take over the work of maintaining software, they need a new harness to operate production systems autonomously” — the acquisition folds that harness into Cognition’s stack
- Founders: Anhang Zhu and Yun Park, with prior experience at Facebook, Databricks, and the React.js team
- Positioning: Combining code creation (Devin) with production operations (TierZero) is meant to “set a new standard for autonomous software development”
How to try it
- Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed
- Cognition says more details on integration timing for existing TierZero customers and Devin users will follow on its official blog
