Cognition Brings the Dioxus Team on Board to Strengthen Devin's App-Building Stack
Cognition announced on September 10, 2026 that Jonathan Kelley and the team behind Dioxus, a cross-platform app development framework, have joined the company. Cognition says it had already been using Dioxus extensively inside Devin, and the two teams connected after recognizing the overlap.
Details
- Who’s joining: Jonathan Kelley and the core Dioxus team, alongside related projects Blitz, Taffy, and Subsecond
- Why Cognition says it fits: Devin already relies heavily on Dioxus for building and optimizing parts of its own platform, so Cognition frames the move as a natural extension of an existing dependency rather than a new direction
- Commitment to open source: Cognition says it will keep supporting Dioxus and its related projects, and will “significantly increase” funding directed at Dioxus-Native and Blitz development
- What the team will work on: beyond continuing Dioxus itself, the team will apply its application-development and systems-engineering background to Devin’s virtual machine, computer-interaction capabilities, and testing infrastructure
- Framing: Cognition describes it simply as “when the two teams met, we knew there was a natural fit”
What happened next
The move follows the same pattern as Cognition’s other team acquisitions this year — Poke’s Interaction Company and production-ops startup TierZero — of absorbing outside teams whose technology already touches Devin’s stack rather than pursuing unrelated diversification. For the open-source Dioxus community, the near-term change is increased funding rather than a shutdown or relicensing; for Devin, the expected payoff shows up later as improvements to the underlying app-building and testing infrastructure the team now owns internally.
