Runway Becomes a Grok Bot Plugin as Kling Models and Brand Kits Join Its MCP

Runway became available as a plugin inside xAI’s Grok Bot on September 17, 2026, letting users sign in with their Runway account and generate images and video directly from a Grok Bot chat. It was the first of three MCP-related additions Runway shipped in less than a week.

Details

  • Runway MCP for Grok Bot (Sep 17): Runway is now a plugin in Grok Bot; signing in with a Runway account lets Grok Bot users generate images and video without leaving the chat, available on paid plans
  • Kling models on Runway MCP (Sep 18): four Kling video generation models — Kling O3 4K, Kling 3.0 Standard, Kling O3 Standard, and Kling 3.0 Motion Control — became directly callable through Runway’s MCP server
  • Brand Kits in Runway MCP (Sep 22): agents connecting through MCP can now find a workspace’s Brand Kits and use those assets as references; access is read-only for now, with creating and editing Brand Kits still confined to the Runway product itself
  • Builds on recent Agent work: the additions follow Runway giving its in-app Agent the ability to create and edit Brand Kits directly in conversation (Sep 10) and letting teams @-mention Agent in asset comments (Sep 15)

What happened next

Within the space of five days, Runway meaningfully widened what its MCP server can do — from a narrow agent-management surface into a channel through which third-party assistants like Grok Bot can call Runway’s own generation models and pull in a workspace’s Kling model options and brand assets. The read-only limit on Brand Kits access suggests Runway is still being cautious about what external agents can modify versus merely reference, even as it opens up more of the platform to outside integrations.
