Runway Lands Inside OpenAI's Dots, Adds Seedance Draft Mode and Ideogram 4.5 to MCP
Runway shipped three product updates on October 1 and 2, 2026: its video generation became reachable from OpenAI’s newly launched “Dots” always-on agents, its in-app Agent gained a faster draft mode built on Seedance 2.5, and its MCP server picked up support for Ideogram 4.5.
Details
- OpenAI Dots x Runway (Oct 1): Runway is now available inside OpenAI’s Dots, the always-on personal agents OpenAI introduced at its DevDay event. Runway describes the workflow as “brief your dot before bed: it plans the shots, Runway shoots them, and the finished spot is waiting in the morning,” letting a Dots agent plan a commercial or video overnight and hand the actual generation to Runway
- Seedance 2.5 Draft Mode in Agent (Oct 2, all plans): Runway’s in-app Agent can now generate with Seedance 2.5’s Draft mode, producing fast 480p drafts with post-generation enhancement; the mode is a toggle inside Agent conversations, meant to let users iterate on a shot cheaply before committing to a full-resolution render
- Ideogram 4.5 in Runway MCP (Oct 2, paid plans): Ideogram 4.5 is now callable through Runway’s Model Context Protocol server, bringing its image generation directly into MCP-based workflows alongside the Kling and other third-party models Runway’s MCP already supports
What happened next
None of the three updates is a flagship model launch, but together they extend two threads Runway has been pulling on all year: making its generation models reachable from outside its own app (via MCP and now via OpenAI’s Dots), and giving Agent cheaper, faster ways to iterate before a final render. The Dots integration in particular ties Runway’s video generation to OpenAI’s new agent product on day one, a notable distribution deal even though it followed, rather than replaced, Runway’s own OpenAI Marketplace partnership from late September.
