Google launches a Connected Apps Platform preview for building apps in Gemini and Search
Google launched a preview of the Connected Apps Platform, a single place for developers to build, test and manage apps that run inside both Search and the Gemini app. It also announced new Connected Apps partners.
Details
- Integration: developers connect through a cloud-hosted MCP server, or through Android MCP using the AppFunctions APIs.
- Google Connected Console: used to register, test and submit an app. Before review, developers choose whether it goes live in Search, the Gemini app, or both.
- Management: after launch, developers can track traffic, latency and error rates, and keep control of brand identity, including verified logos and authenticated accounts.
- Access: opening in phases; more developers, markets and Google products will be added over the coming months. Sign-up and documentation are at developers.google.com/connected-apps.
- Partners: more than 50 Connected Apps have launched across Search and Gemini. Adobe, Experian, Localiza and Peloton are live in Gemini and will come to Search in the coming weeks. A Calm integration launches across both Search and Gemini.
What happened next
Using one MCP-based integration for two surfaces lowers the cost of reaching Gemini and Search users, and positions MCP as Google’s app-integration standard. Which markets, developers and pricing terms apply is undisclosed.
