Google announced that the Gemini app can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code and other files inside the chat window.

Details

  • Editing: Expand a file to full screen and type changes directly.
  • Highlight and ask: Select a section and ask Gemini questions about it or request AI revisions, including text and visuals.
  • Example: Upload handwritten lecture notes, have Gemini produce a PDF study guide, then edit it by hand and refine with AI.
  • File types: PDF preview and editing works on web and mobile. Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, TXT and code are web only.
  • Availability: All users, in all languages where the Gemini app is offered. Subscription tiers are not specified, and no phased rollout is described.

What happened next

This moves Gemini from producing files for download to a working editor in the conversation, though mobile support is limited to PDFs. Any plan-based limits are undisclosed.
